Product filtering

Some categories of our site track ready products .com contain well over 1000 items.

What's a convenient way to enable product filtering, like Amazon and Walmart, where you can check/uncheck various price, color, brand, etc options?

I would also be interested in knowing the best way to achieve filtering as many of the plugins that used to be used dont have an up to date version.

To me it seems the best way forward is to create your own additional product fields and then a custom side box to filter these?

A popular plugin that I have seen previously used is "Dynamic Filter" but Im not sure if this is working with 2.0.0

yes we could add addt'l product fields and then build a script to populate; as our products range from helmets (size) to t-shirts (size, color) to suspension arms (make, model, year) and as we have 27K items we'd have to keep it basic. But at least that's something, right?

I looked at Dynamic Filter, it hasn't been touched in ages and no one from the current group of Gods has adopted it. That tells me it's probably evil and/or a massive amount of work to modernize. Filtering is so ubiquitous, I'm surprised there's no demand.
